National Apprenticeship Day 2025 Marks Transition In Annual Celebration

April 30, 2025

National Apprenticeship Day 2025 is being recognized across the country today, marking a key moment in the evolving celebration of apprenticeships nationwide. Coordinated by the U.S. Department of Labor, the event highlights the value of Registered Apprenticeships in strengthening the American economy and building a pipeline of highly skilled workers for in-demand jobs.

This year’s observance represents a shift for National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2023. Historically held in November, the celebration is now transitioning to spring, with a standalone National Apprenticeship Day taking place on April 30, 2025. A full week of events will resume in 2026 and continue annually in the spring.

Local Celebration in Houston

As part of today’s nationwide activities, the Houston Gulf Coast Building & Construction Trades Council will host a special event featuring Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. The celebration will take place at Iron Workers Local 84 at 7521 Fauna Street, near Hobby Airport, at 2:00 p.m.

“We are very excited to welcome Judge Hidalgo and showcase some of the extraordinary talent and work of our apprentices,” said Paul Puente, Executive Secretary of the Houston Gulf Coast Building & Construction Trades Council.

Judge Hidalgo will tour the Iron Workers training facility, meet with current apprentices, and hear success stories from program graduates. The event underscores the critical role of partnerships between industry, government, and labor in fostering workforce development.

About National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration that brings together employers, apprentices and graduates, labor organizations, educational institutions, community-based organizations, and all levels of government. The initiative showcases the success and value of Registered Apprenticeships in creating strong career pathways and meeting evolving industry demands.

NAW is authorized under the National Apprenticeship Act and led by the U.S. Department of Labor through the ApprenticeshipUSA initiative. In 2023, NAW featured more than 2,500 events and proclamations across all states and several territories.

To support the new spring schedule, National Apprenticeship Day will be observed on April 30, 2025, followed by a weeklong celebration from April 26 to May 2, 2026. Future NAW dates include:

  • April 25–May 1, 2027
  • April 23–April 29, 2028
