Supporting apprenticeships is a powerful way to build a stronger workforce, and Texas employers now have an opportunity to receive a financial incentive for doing just that. Through the Apprenticeship Tax Refund Pilot Program from the Texas Workforce Commission, eligible employers can receive a tax refund for hiring apprentices enrolled in approved training programs.
If your organization employed apprentices in 2025, you may qualify for up to $2,500 per apprentice, helping offset workforce training costs while continuing to grow your team.
Program Details
Eligible employers may receive refunds for up to six apprentices who:
- Were enrolled in a Registered Apprenticeship Program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor
- Earned wages for at least seven months during the 2025 calendar year
Refund amounts are calculated by the Texas Comptroller’s Office and are based on sales and use taxes paid during the 2025 calendar year.
Additional Eligibility
Employers may receive refunds for up to six eligible apprentices when hiring individuals with certain designations, including:
- Transitioning or former foster youth
- Veterans
