A One-Stop Opportunity for Young Job Seekers

For many young people, getting started in the workforce can feel overwhelming. The Youth Job Fair aims to simplify that process by bringing employers, workforce programs, and career exploration opportunities together in one place.

“This is such an important conversation,” said Juliet Stipeche, Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Workforce Board, during a preview segment with KTRK ABC13. “We talk a lot about workforce development in Houston, but it really starts with young people — making sure they know what’s out there and that there is a pathway for them, whatever their background or goals.”

The event is designed to offer more than just summer jobs. Attendees can explore career pathways, learn about training opportunities, and connect with organizations that support long-term career growth.

The event will also highlight opportunities in skilled trades through participation from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Industrial Craft Competition. This initiative introduces young people to hands-on careers that may not require a traditional four-year degree.

These pathways can offer competitive wages, career advancement, and opportunities to build valuable technical skills.

Employer Partnerships Create Career Pathways

Employers such as HCA Healthcare are also involved in youth workforce efforts, offering entry-level opportunities and career pathways in industries like healthcare. These partnerships help young people gain experience while learning about long-term career options.

Past participants of Hire Gulf Coast Youth have used these opportunities to gain valuable experience, develop professional skills, and take their first steps toward meaningful careers.

The Youth Job Fair is free and open to anyone ages 14 to 24. Organizers encourage attendees to come prepared to meet employers, ask questions, and explore different career options.

“If you know a young person who needs this — please share it,” Stipeche said. “This is exactly the kind of opportunity that can change the direction of someone’s life.”
