What does it take to start a career at one of the world’s largest HVAC manufacturers? According to Daikin Texas Technology Park, the answer isn’t previous experience—it’s a willingness to learn.
In a recent visit to Daikin Texas Technology Park, Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast Executive Director Juliet K. Stipeche spoke with Wendy Hall, Senior Director of Communications, Culture & Community Engagement for Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, about how the company recruits, trains, and develops employees at its Houston-area manufacturing facility.
Located in Waller, the 4.3-million-square-foot campus employs between 8,000 and 10,000 people each day and manufactures heating and air conditioning equipment for customers across North America.
Training Begins After You’re Hired
Hall explained that many positions do not require previous manufacturing experience. Instead, Daikin looks for applicants who are dependable and ready to learn.
“We can train you to do anything,” Hall said, explaining that the company provides employees with the technical instruction needed for a variety of manufacturing roles.
One example is Daikin’s on-site “dojos,” dedicated training spaces where employees develop specialized skills used throughout the manufacturing process.
During the visit, Hall introduced one of the company’s brazing dojos, where employees learn precision techniques used to assemble HVAC equipment. The training is provided at no cost to employees and prepares participants for higher-skilled positions within the facility.
Opportunities to Grow Within the Company
Hall said employees can begin in entry-level assembly positions and continue advancing as they gain experience and complete additional training.
“We want you to find your home here and grow,” she said, describing Daikin’s commitment to developing employees throughout their careers.
By investing in internal training, the company creates opportunities for employees to move into more specialized manufacturing roles without leaving the organization.
Connecting Job Seekers with Employers
Daikin also works with Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast to connect with job candidates and support hiring efforts. Hall said Workforce Solutions assists with recruiting, hiring events, resume support, and interview preparation to help employers identify qualified candidates.
The partnership also supports veterans transitioning into civilian careers. Hall noted that military experience often aligns well with the company’s workplace culture and the technical skills needed in manufacturing.
