Houston Women Leaders to Headline International Women’s Day 2025 Panel

March 6, 2025

The United Nations Association (UNA) Houston, in collaboration with the City of Houston and the World Federation of United Nations Associations, will host Houston’s International Women’s Day 2025, an exclusive event dedicated to advancing the rights, equality, and empowerment of women and girls.

The gathering will take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Houston City Hall’s Legacy Room. The invitation-only event welcomes UNA members and encourages attendees to dress in ethnic attire, purple, or business casual.

The event will feature a distinguished panel discussion guided by the theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” Alamdar Hamdani, former U.S. Attorney, will moderate the conversation, which will include Juliet Stipeche, Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Workforce Board; Dr. Brenda Hellyer, Chancellor of San Jacinto College; and Brenda Richardson, CEO of Healthco Pharmacy.

The discussion will center on global and local efforts to advance gender equality, addressing ongoing challenges and highlighting achievements.

International Women’s Day, officially recognized by the United Nations in 1975 during the International Women’s Year, has since become a global celebration of women’s rights. The observance gained further significance in 1995 with the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a historic roadmap signed by 189 governments that identified 12 critical areas of concern for women’s equality. The United Nations further reinforced its commitment to gender equality through Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
