Affordable Childcare in Texas: Resources for Working Families

November 5, 2025

Finding affordable childcare in Texas can feel like an uphill battle for many families. Factors such as high costs, workforce shortages, and limited availability of licensed providers make it difficult for parents to secure safe and reliable care for their children.

According to KVUE, the average annual cost for infant and toddler care in Texas can reach nearly $21,600—about 27% of the median household income in the state. Coupled with staffing shortages at childcare centers, this creates a significant challenge for working families across Texas.

Helping Families Access Affordable Childcare

Gulf Coast Workforce Solutions is committed to help Texas families overcome these obstacles. One of the primary ways Workforce Solutions supports families is through childcare scholarships. These scholarships are designed to help parents who are working, attending school, or seeking better job opportunities afford high-quality childcare.

The program not only supports families but also strengthens local childcare providers by promoting early learning and program quality improvements.

Currently, Workforce Solutions works with 2,335 service providers and serves over 30,000 children each month, distributing approximately $19 million in childcare assistance monthly. The goal is to promote long-term self-sufficiency by enabling parents to work or continue their education while ensuring children have access to quality care.
