The Houston Gulf Coast Building & Construction Trades Council’s Apprenticeship Readiness Program (ARP) Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) prepares participants for careers in the skilled trades through a pathway into U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Programs.
Designed to help individuals transition into high-demand construction careers, the program combines industry-recognized training with career readiness skills, giving participants the foundation needed to begin an “earn while you learn” apprenticeship.
What to Expect
The ARP/MC3 program provides hands-on and classroom instruction that introduces participants to the construction industry while preparing them for Registered Apprenticeship opportunities.
Training includes:
- Construction industry orientation
- Construction tools and materials
- Construction health and safety, including OSHA 10 and CPR certification
- Blueprint reading
- Basic construction math
- Financial literacy
- Green construction
- Diversity in the construction industry
- Heritage of the American worker
Classes are held Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Why Choose an Apprenticeship?
Registered Apprenticeship Programs allow participants to earn a paycheck while learning a skilled trade. Apprentices typically work 40 or more hours each week while attending apprenticeship classes one or two evenings per week.
Participants may also:
- Earn college credit while completing their apprenticeship
- Receive healthcare and pension benefits
- Begin earning $15 to $25 per hour, plus benefits, as first-year apprentices
- Progress to $25 to $45 per hour, plus benefits, after completing the apprenticeship
- Graduate with industry-recognized skills and no tuition debt
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Pass a drug screening
- Have a high school diploma with transcript or a GED certificate with scores
- Provide a birth certificate
- Have a valid driver’s license or state ID, Social Security card, and reliable transportation
- Provide DD-214 discharge papers if previously served in the military
- Be authorized to work in the United States
- Meet Selective Service registration requirements, if applicable
