A partnership between Compassion United and Workforce Solutions is helping individuals experiencing homelessness connect with employment resources and build pathways toward long-term stability.

For more than 20 years, Compassion United has served Montgomery County by supporting individuals and families facing poverty and homelessness. Through its Day Center and transition programs, the organization provides services that address immediate needs while helping participants work toward greater independence.

Carla Reus, Director of Empowerment for Compassion United, said the organization has partnered with Workforce Solutions to help residents in transitional housing secure employment opportunities that support long-term self-sufficiency.

The collaboration has expanded through outreach efforts like Workforce on Wheels, an initiative designed to bring workforce services directly into the community. The program provides workshops, seminars, and employment preparation resources to individuals who may face transportation or access barriers.

Carolyn Jones, Community Engagement Coordinator with Workforce Solutions, said the partnership reflects a broader effort to strengthen communities across the Gulf Coast region by making workforce resources more accessible.

Nikita Saledo, Career Adviser with Workforce Solutions, shared that learning about Compassion United’s impact in the homeless community inspired efforts to bring additional workforce services directly to those in need.

Both organizations emphasized the importance of creating safe, supportive spaces where individuals can access resources, celebrate progress, and take meaningful steps toward employment and stability.

“One of the best parts of my day is when people come up and tell me the strides they’ve made because they had a safe place to connect to the resources they need,” Jones said.

Leaders from both organizations also highlighted the value of collaboration and community partnerships in creating long-term impact for the individuals they serve.

“We’re all here because we believe in the people that we serve,” said Luke Reus, CEO of Compassion United.

Compassion United and Workforce Solutions continue working together to help individuals move from crisis toward opportunity and independence.
