The Gulf Coast Workforce Board Apprenticeship Summit brought employers, workforce professionals, and industry partners together in Houston to discuss Registered Apprenticeships and the resources available to help businesses develop their workforce.

Held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at H-GAC, the regional learning forum focused on how apprenticeship programs can help employers develop job-specific skills, support retention, and prepare workers for long-term careers.

The summit also marked the launch of ApprenticeshipsWork!, a new regional resource and technical assistance center designed to help employers develop, expand, and sustain Registered Apprenticeship programs.

A Closer Look at Registered Apprenticeships

The summit gave employers an opportunity to explore how Registered Apprenticeships can fit into different workforce strategies.

Topics addressed during the event included:

  • Benefits of Registered Apprenticeship programs for employers
  • Strategies for developing and expanding apprenticeship programs
  • Talent development and workforce retention
  • Resources and technical assistance available to employers
  • Collaboration between employers, workforce organizations, and industry partners

Introducing ApprenticeshipsWork!

One of the key developments highlighted at the summit was the launch of ApprenticeshipsWork!

The new regional center will provide employers with technical assistance and resources to help them develop, expand, and sustain Registered Apprenticeship programs.

For businesses that are considering an apprenticeship for the first time, this type of support can help them understand the process and determine how an apprenticeship could fit their workforce needs. Employers with existing programs can also access resources as they look for ways to expand or strengthen their approach.
