Traci Nolen of the Gulf Coast Workforce Board, Diana Nores of College of the Mainland, and Robert Schwagert of Gulf Copper & Davies Defense joined workforce and industry leaders at the Texas Workforce Commission’s 10th Annual ApprenticeshipTexas Conference in Houston on September 24–25.
The two-day conference featured apprenticeship models and approaches from across Texas. One keynote presentation from Texas Ford Dealers focused on addressing the shortage of automotive technicians through Registered Apprenticeship, offering an example of how employers can use apprenticeship programs to build a skilled workforce for their industry.
The conference also provided an opportunity for Gulf Coast partners to continue their work around Registered Apprenticeship opportunities in maritime and shipbuilding. Nolen, Nores and Schwagert participated as part of the region’s efforts to build apprenticeship pathways that support the skilled workforce needed across the Gulf Coast’s maritime and shipbuilding industries.
Juliet Stipeche, Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Workforce Board – Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast, opened the conference by welcoming attendees from across Texas.
The participation of the Gulf Coast Workforce Board, College of the Mainland and Gulf Copper & Davies Defense reflects the partnership’s continued focus on connecting workforce, education and industry around apprenticeship opportunities in the region.
