The Gulf Coast Workforce Board (GCWB) is launching the Educator Internship Initiative, a new program designed to strengthen the pipeline of well-prepared teachers while connecting educator preparation more closely with regional workforce needs.
The initiative provides junior-year education majors from Sam Houston State University’s College of Education with paid internships through iEducate, where they will serve as math tutors and intervention specialists in school districts across the region. Participants gain hands-on classroom experience while supporting student learning and developing the instructional skills needed to succeed as future teachers.
The program is delivered through a partnership between the GCWB, iEducate, Region 6 Education Service Center, and Sam Houston State University. Each partner contributes expertise in workforce development, educator preparation, and instructional support.
The initiative responds to a growing need for certified, well-prepared teachers across the region. Early classroom experience helps aspiring educators build practical teaching skills while strengthening the talent pipeline for one of the Gulf Coast’s fastest-growing industries.
Education remains a critical sector for the region’s workforce and long-term economic growth. Through initiatives like this, the Gulf Coast Workforce Board continues to connect education, workforce development, and regional industry needs to support both student success and a stronger workforce.
