Looking for a job in Texas? Whether you’re entering the workforce for the first time or making a career change, WorkInTexas.com is a powerful resource for connecting with employers across the state. It’s the official job-matching system operated by the Texas Workforce Commission, designed to help Texans find opportunities that match their skills, experience, and career goals.
In the Texas Gulf Coast region, Workforce Solutions provides more than just access to job listings. We offer free career services, expert guidance, and tools to help you start your work journey.
This guide will walk you through how to make the most of WorkInTexas, and how your local Workforce Solutions Career Office can support your job search.
1. Get Started on WorkInTexas.com
To begin, visit WorkInTexas.com and register as a job seeker. You’ll need to create an ID and password.
Tip: make sure to store this information in a secure place, as you’ll need it to access your account, update your profile, and apply for jobs.
Once registered, you can build a resume, receive job matches based on your qualifications, and apply directly through the platform.
2. Building a Strong Profile
Your profile is the foundation of your job search on WorkInTexas. The more detailed and accurate it is, the better your job matches will be. Start by completing the basic personal information, then move on to other sections, such as work history, skills, education, and certifications.
Be sure to include:
- Accurate job history, including relevant accomplishments
- Skills you’ve gained from both work and education
- Language proficiency, if applicable
- Military experience, if you’re a veteran
If you’re a qualified U.S. Military Veteran, check the veteran status box in the “Additional Information” section — It gives your profile greater visibility in search results for employers!
3. Use the Job Matching Features
WorkInTexas uses your profile data to generate job matches, but only if your profile is complete and aligns with employer criteria.
When setting up your account, you’ll be asked to select your location and occupational preferences. You can include up to five preferred locations and fifteen job titles. This flexibility can significantly increase your chances of finding a position that meets your goals.
It’s also important to be realistic and flexible about your salary expectations. Setting your desired salary too high may unintentionally filter out jobs that would be a great fit.
4. Create and Preview Your Resume
WorkInTexas includes a built-in resume builder, allowing you to create, save, and print a professional resume directly from your profile. Make sure to:
- Fill out all relevant sections, especially work history and education
- Check for spelling and grammar errors
- Preview your resume to see it from an employer’s perspective
- Ensure consistency between your resume and your profile
A well-crafted resume increases your chances of being contacted by employers and strengthens your job applications. Find more tips here.
5. Searching and Applying for Jobs
Once your profile and resume are complete, you can begin applying for jobs. You can search manually by job title, industry, location, or rely on the automatic job matches generated by the system.
Note: You can only apply for positions that match the qualifications listed in your profile. This is why it’s critical to update your information regularly and make sure it’s as complete as possible.
