Workforce Solutions is monitoring conditions in the area and preparing to offer recovery support to affected individuals and employers following a severe weather event that brought more than seven inches of rain by midday Thursday, Matagorda County officials have issued a disaster declaration to address flooding and widespread power outages affecting residents. Local leaders cited coastal flooding and road closures as major concerns, especially in communities like Palacios, La Ward, and Blessing. Portions of State Highway 35 and FM 1862 remain closed due to high water.
Thousands are without power, and a Flash Flood Warning remained in effect through early Thursday afternoon. In Bay City, sandbags were distributed to help residents protect property from rising water.
