How To Start Job Searching?
“Back in the days, everyone used to go to the classifies and look for the information, or walk into a building and fill an application on the spot,” shared Richard Prather, Career Education Specialist.
That approach has changed these days, with the introduction of digital platforms such as LinkedIn, Indeed or Glassdoor, making it possible to browse listings and submit applications from the comfort of your home. And while these platforms are useful, some advanced features are available through paid subscriptions. That’s where MyTXCareer comes in.
What is MyTXCareer?
Designed for Texans by Texans, MyTXCareer, is a resource from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to make job search easier, smarter, and more personal. Here, you can explore career pathways, match to jobs, and access training and resource support.
How it Works
1. Download the MyTXCareer app.
It is available for iOS and Android devices via the App Store and Google Play.
2. Create an Account.
You may use the app without registering, but to save your results and get full benefits you should create an account.
The app asks for your name, email address, and then optionally your education level, work experience, skills, and career interests
3. Choose a Career Path.
Browse occupations, view job demand, average salaries, and required skills in Texas.
There is a “career personality quiz” which helps match your skills and interests, to recommended career paths.
4. Start Job Searching.
The portal MyTXCareer.com (in its job-search mode) provides access to job postings in Texas, and helps match job seekers with employers.
If you ever have questions or need extra guidance, you can visit any local Workforce Solutions office, where an employment counselor can help you navigate MyTXCareer, review your resume, or connect you to additional training and employment resources.
