When Bariana Bailey lost her work-from-home data entry job after a company layoff, she suddenly found herself searching for something many parents can relate to—stability.

As the mother of a young toddler, Bailey knew she needed more than just another temporary position. She wanted a long-term opportunity that could help her support her son and build a secure future.

That search led her to the Paid Work Experience (PWE) Program through Workforce Solutions.

“With me being a mom of a young toddler, I reached out to Workforce Solutions and I got started with the Paid Work Experience Program,” Bailey said.

The program helps young adults ages 16 to 24 gain hands-on work experience while exploring career opportunities that align with their skills and interests. Workforce Solutions staff work directly with participants to understand their goals and connect them with employers across the Houston area.

When Bailey joined the program, she met with Workforce Solutions staff members Monica and Ivana Ihezue, a Paid Work Experience Coordinator at the Northeast office.

“They asked me my background, my interests, and what I would be interested in,” Bailey said. “I did let them know that I’m familiar with data entry and front desk work.”

Based on her experience, Workforce Solutions connected Bailey with Dreamcatchers Therapy, where she began working as a front desk assistant.

For Ihezue, Bailey quickly became a standout participant.

“Every time I would come, everyone had great things to say about her,” Ihezue said. “When she finished the program, she was offered full-time employment as well as benefits.”

That opportunity became a turning point for Bailey.

“After I finished the program with Workforce Solutions, I did get hired on,” she said. “I’m now a full-time employee at Dreamcatchers Therapy and it comes with benefits.”

Beyond employment, Bailey says the experience gave her peace of mind as a parent working toward long-term security for her family.

“The benefits are a huge plus,” Bailey said. “It makes me feel secure because my overall goal was to have a stable job to provide for my son.”

Stories like Bailey’s are exactly why the Paid Work Experience Program exists, according to Ihezue, who says successful outcomes help inspire other young adults entering the program.

“She’s a prime example that anything is possible when working with Workforce Solutions,” Ihezue said.

Now settled into her role and building her career, Bailey says she hopes others take advantage of the opportunity as well.

“Everything worked out great,” she said. “I 100% recommend the Workforce program to anyone.”
