For veterans transitioning from military service to civilian careers, the skills developed in the armed forces can open doors to opportunities across a wide range of industries. From skilled trades to technology and operations, employers are looking for the experience, discipline, and technical skills veterans bring to the workplace.
Lawrence Balu, a supervisor with Gulf Copper Davie and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, is encouraging fellow veterans to explore careers in the maritime and industrial sectors.
“I’m talking to all you veterans out there,” Balu said. “We’re trying to get the ladies and men of our fine forces to come and build ships with us.”
At Gulf Copper Davie, veterans can find opportunities in areas including welding, fitting, crane and forklift operations, electrical work, IT, and human resources. Balu said the company is looking for workers who want to put their skills to use while contributing to projects that support the nation’s maritime needs.
“We have a lot of demand here,” Balu said. “We’d love to have all you veterans come.”
Balu also encouraged veterans to take advantage of job fairs and other hiring opportunities designed to connect them with employers.
His message is simple: veterans have valuable skills to bring to the civilian workforce, and there are employers ready to put those skills to work.
