SEAL Work Experience: Growing Talent While Strengthening Community

The Summer Earn & Learn (SEAL) Work Experience program creates meaningful, paid work opportunities for young people ages 14–22 with disabilities. Designed to bridge the gap between learning and employment, SEAL gives students real-world exposure to today’s industries while helping employers invest in the next generation of talent.

Running from June through August 2026, SEAL offers short-term, entry-level paid work experiences that last 5–8 weeks. These placements allow students to apply academic and technical skills in real workplace settings while building foundational employability skills such as responsibility, communication, and independence.

For many participants, SEAL serves as a first step toward long-term employment or continued training.

Before starting their worksites, students receive work readiness training, ensuring they arrive prepared to contribute and learn from day one. During the internship, students gain hands-on experience that helps them explore career pathways and better understand workplace expectations.

A Partnership That Benefits Employers and the Community

SEAL is more than a student opportunity, it is a workforce development partnership. By becoming a SEAL worksite, employers can:

  • Build a future workforce by helping young people develop skills needed to thrive in today’s labor market
  • Gain additional support on their team while mentoring a motivated student
  • Learn disability-inclusive recruiting and accommodation practices
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the community

To reduce barriers for employers, Workforce Solutions pays the students’ wages and provides Workers’ Compensation Insurance. This allows worksites to focus on mentoring, skill-building, and meaningful work experience rather than administrative costs.

Creating Pathways to Employment

SEAL connects employers with students who are eager to apply what they have learned and grow professionally. These experiences help students build confidence, independence, and employability while creating a pipeline of future talent for local businesses and organizations.
