State Senator Borris Miles, representing District 13, once again showcased his dedication to his hometown by hosting a highly successful job fair at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, located at the bustling corner of Cullen and Reed Road. Having grown up in Sunnyside, Senator Miles remains deeply committed to creating meaningful opportunities for his constituents, and this event added yet another milestone to his long-standing efforts.
Organized in partnership with Workforce Solutions, the job fair drew an impressive crowd, with approximately 200 to 300 attendees participating throughout the day. Senator Miles, who has consistently hosted similar events for the past four years, highlighted the initiative’s impact: “With Workforce Solutions, we’ve successfully helped over 2,000 people find employment, and we’re going to keep increasing those numbers.”
The event brought together a diverse range of employers and organizations eager to connect with local job seekers. Attendees expressed gratitude for the chance to engage directly with hiring managers. “This is the kind of help that really empowers people to help themselves. It’s truly amazing,” shared one enthusiastic participant.
Employers also provided positive feedback, noting the high level of interest and engagement from candidates. One recruiter remarked, “I wasn’t expecting this turnout, but it’s been great. I even hired about 10 people on the spot today.” Another vendor added, “We’ve had a lot of good candidates come by. It’s eye-opening to see how many people in our community already meet our qualifications, they just needed to know we exist.”
One of the event’s standout features was the ringing of a bell each time someone secured a job. By the end of the day, the bell had chimed around 20 times, each ring a symbol of real, immediate success for local job seekers.
