Michael “Mike” Ferdinand brings decades of experience, and a clear-eyed understanding of regional growth, to his role as a board member of Gulf Coast Workforce Solutions. As the Executive Director of the Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation, Ferdinand has spent more than 30 years working in economic development, helping communities position themselves for sustainable opportunity.
“For me, workforce development is critical because it’s one of the four components, the companies either expand, joint venture, relocate or acquire,” he explains. Staying engaged in workforce development, he adds, “quite frankly, makes my job easier.” By helping ensure a strong, prepared labor force, Ferdinand supports both employers and the long-term vitality of the region.
Looking ahead, Ferdinand sees significant momentum on the horizon. “I see the economy of Texas and Houston region said to have exponential growth,” he shares. Preparing the workforce to meet that growth, he believes, will be critical in turning opportunity into lasting prosperity.
Outside his professional life, Ferdinand is happiest near the water. A self-described “coastal guy,” he enjoys offshore fishing whenever he can.
With deep experience, a practical approach to workforce development, and optimism about the region’s future, Michael Ferdinand plays an important role in helping align economic growth with opportunity. His work underscores a simple but powerful idea: when workforce and economic development move together, everyone benefits.
