For nearly three decades, Adrian Ozuna has built his career around one central principle: serving the whole community. This fall, he will celebrate 30 years in banking, a milestone that reflects both experience and commitment. Appointed by Judge Hidalgo in 2018 and officially joining the board in 2019, Adrian brings a community-centered lens to the Gulf Coast Workforce Board.
As a community development officer in his current role, Adrian spends much of his time out in the community, ensuring that financial institutions are lending fairly and equitably. His work focuses on making sure banks are serving everyone, everywhere—following the rules, expanding access to homeownership, helping individuals secure car loans, and supporting families as they plan for retirement. In short, he asks a simple but powerful question: Are we truly serving the entire community?
That question translates seamlessly to his work on the Workforce Board, where expanding opportunity and strengthening economic foundations go hand in hand.
Adrian’s “why” is deeply personal. A Houston native, born and raised, his love for the city runs deep. “I love Houston,” he shares, describing the incredible pride he feels in helping build an economic foundation that will last for generations. He understands that the impact of today’s work may not always be visible in the moment, but he believes future generations will recognize the groundwork being laid now. For him, workforce development is about planting seeds that others will one day harvest.
When he looks ahead at the future of the workforce, Adrian remains hopeful. While acknowledging that the months ahead may bring challenges, he sees Houston as a “rich tapestry of people” whose innovative spirit continues to drive the region forward. As a major center of immigration, Houston attracts individuals with determination and a strong can-do attitude. The desire to achieve and build something better is what fuels Adrian’s optimism about the region’s economic future.
Outside of his professional and board commitments, Adrian continues his dedication to community impact by serving on two additional boards focused on affordable housing. Expanding access to that first home and helping families establish roots is a mission close to his heart.
When he’s not working or volunteering, Adrian enjoys the simple pleasures of life. He likes gardening and cooking, and he’s a fan of movies. While he once spent weekends playing volleyball, he jokes that his orthopedist might not approve of that these days. Still, he enjoys staying active in his own way and spending time with friends.
Adrian Ozuna embodies the spirit of Houston: resilient, forward-thinking, and grounded in community. Whether through banking, workforce development, or affordable housing, his focus remains the same, creating opportunity today so that future generations can thrive tomorrow.
