Allayia Harris brings a strong background in higher education and workforce development to her role as a Gulf Coast Workforce Board member. As Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives at San Jacinto College, her work has focused on helping community colleges create pathways to opportunity while supporting the needs of local industries and employers.

“My career has been in community colleges and for the last probably 15 years really focused on workforce development, workforce programs, and how community colleges are economic drivers in the local community.”

Harris believes workforce development plays a critical role in strengthening both communities and industries across the region. She sees the board’s work as an investment in people of all ages and career stages, from students entering the workforce to adults seeking better opportunities.

“I think it’s a bright future… the board is doing is really looking at growing a workforce and looking at the younger generation… while simultaneously creating opportunities for adults in workforce…”

For Harris, the impact of workforce initiatives reaches across the entire region, helping connect people to meaningful careers and stronger futures.

Outside of her professional work and board service, Harris enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and her beloved Labrador retriever.

“I have a 130lb Labrador retriever… My husband and I fish and the dog likes to fish. So outdoors as much as possible, and I love animals.”
