For the Gulf Coast region, Susan Lindsey has become a steadfast advocate for meaningful employment and empowerment. As the Regional Director for Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Services in Region Five, Lindsey has dedicated her career to helping people with disabilities achieve independence through work. Her role places her at the heart of workforce development, bridging the gap between state services and local communities.

Lindsey’s professional journey is diverse, reflecting both breadth and depth of experience. “My background comes from working at Space Center Houston in the NASA area, in various positions, and then coming to state VR,” she shared. She also served at the federal Social Security Administration, yet it’s vocational rehabilitation that captured her heart. “I really enjoy helping people with disabilities go to work,” she said, a mission that has guided her throughout her career.

Her connection to the Gulf Coast Workforce Board began naturally through collaboration. With 23 VR offices across the region, many co-located within Workforce Solutions centers, Lindsey quickly became familiar with the board’s impact. “My office is right here at the board location on Timmons,” she explained. “As I became familiar with it, I wanted to get more and more involved to make a difference, not only in the lives of people with disabilities, but all the people in the Gulf Coast area that we serve.” For Lindsey, her work is about more than programs; it’s about quality, accessibility, and the broad spectrum of services available to families and workers alike.

Outside the office, Lindsey channels her curiosity and creativity into personal passions. An award-winning human interest photographer since the age of 17, she has long found inspiration in the stories of others. She also maintains a lifelong fascination with space, “I even have a space station tracking app on my phone,” she laughed.

Susan Lindsey embodies dedication and vision for the Gulf Coast workforce. Through her leadership in vocational rehabilitation and her commitment to collaboration with the Workforce Board, she ensures that opportunities for meaningful employment are not just a goal but a reality for the region’s residents.
